Celebrity gap? Or, you can't HR Roseanne

Mon Aug 18, 2008 at 05:36:22 PM PDT

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/...

Well, I suppose you could if she deigned to grace us with a username and the occasional comment.
Lucky for us (and for her), she does not have to worry about what moderate or racist dKos'ers think
about her comments.  If you haven't clicked the link yet, it is just about her slamming Brad Pitt and (especially) Angelina Jolie for adopting African children, implying that they actually give a shit about children in that part of the world, while remaining uncommitted in the presidential election.  The Republican party has (of course) been shitting all over black people ever since 1966 (one could very much see this coming when they nominated segregationist Barry Goldwater in 1964), and anybody who knows anything about their policies toward people of color HERE OR in Africa would very much automatically know which side to pick.

So Roseanne rightly condemns them for their hypocrisy.

BREAKING: Angie gives birth 2 Knox Leon n Vivienne Marcheline

Sun Jul 13, 2008 at 12:01:07 AM PDT

Not much of a diary, just breaking news: As of today, the world has 2 more Jolie-Pitt offsprings 2 welcome. In Nice, France, Angelina Jolie gave birth 2 a boy and a girl via Caesar's section. According to the local medical staff, the mother and the kids are in good shape and good spirits. Brad and the rest of the clan, who are occupying 4 rooms in the 6th floor of the hospital, were present during the childbirth and couldn't be happier about the smoothness of entire process. Congratulations, Angie, Brad, Maddox, Shiloh, Zahara and Pax.

Honor Malaria Day--Buy an African kid a $7 mosquito net

Fri Apr 25, 2008 at 10:06:35 AM PDT

I hope Kos won't mind, given the cause, a rather repetitive diary.

One of the few brights spots these days is that millions of Americans finally realize the importance of global health. Today is world Malaria Day. If you're reading this, you probably already know that this is a huge killer, particularly of kids in sub-Saharan Africa. I was hoping to party with Brad and Angelina to celebrate the occasion. That probably won't happen since my daughter has soccer.

Instead, to honor the occasion I am buying bednets for some African kids. You should too. These cost maybe $7 each, and are among the most gloriously cost-effective things you can ever do to save lives and improve health. The charity link is

Insanity in Mississippi: Restaurants to Stop Serving Obese Patrons!

Sun Feb 03, 2008 at 12:25:55 PM PDT

I thought I had heard my share of idiotic pronouncements and insane laws! Today I stand corrected: Mississippi legislators this week introduced a bill that would make it illegal for state-licensed restaurants to serve obese patrons. I kid you not. This was also diaried by Diogenes2008 yesterday. My concern is twofold: how does one define "obese" and what are the real causes of obesity, a subject I have researched and written about at length.

Bill No. 282, a copy of which is here, and here, is the brainchild of three members of the state's House of Representatives, Republicans W. T. Mayhall, Jr. and John Read, and Democrat Bobby Shows. The bill proposes that the state's Department of Health establish weight criteria after consultation with Mississippi's Council on Obesity.

Follow me for another look at the world of "fat".

Dear Jon Bon Jovi: NOLA Needs You.

Wed Jan 02, 2008 at 09:12:41 AM PDT

I understand per a cable news report I heard New Year's Day that you have been completed renovating several homes for the poor in ....North Philadelphia. Which suggests to me that the need for affordable housing is a cause near and dear to your heart.

This is not to take away from the need there, but right now there's another American city, struggling for her survival, where people are suffering, which needs your help....

I Just Took A Shower With Brad Pitt

Wed Dec 05, 2007 at 06:13:36 PM PDT

Look. I know this breaks all the rules. Diary too short. Diary making fun of another Diary. Diary about something stupid. On and on. I know all that. I tried to stop myself. I did.

While I'm writing this, I'm trying to stop myself.

I'm telling myself I won't post this.

I just bought a showerhead for Brad Pitt (update)

Wed Dec 05, 2007 at 08:01:27 AM PDT

I was just thinking about all that warm water running over his naked, um, shoulders.  I would use my loofah to give him a nice massage with some Zum's sandalwood and goat's milk soap, gently scrubbing all of his nooks and crannies...

Ahem, actually, I bought the showerhead for this cool project he's working on in New Orleans.  It's called Make It Right.  The goal is to build 150 houses in the lower 9th ward of New Orleans.  You can see the model house that has been designed for this project here.
The 1,000 sq ft houses are built off the ground and include such energy efficient features as tankless water heaters and solar panels.

Brad Pitt is donating $5 million smackeroos to this project and you, too, can buy a showerhead....

Where Was Brad Pitt? (Or Extremely Annoying Brian Williams Update #5)

Wed Dec 05, 2007 at 06:57:00 AM PDT

Due to having been busy diarying more important matters, I haven't written any Brian Williams diaries lately, but that doesn't mean he and NBC Nightly News haven't been Extremely Annoying in the past couple of weeks.

First of all, celebrity-happy NBC Nightly News--which about two months ago aired a full report on Ellen DeGeneres crying over a dog and devoted close to a week's worth of reports to the scandal at Oprah's South Africa girls' school, hasn't aired anything about Brad Pitt lately. Even though Pitt made a big announcement on Monday. More below the fold....

A Greener Gulf Coast: Brad Pitt earns some cred ...

Tue Dec 04, 2007 at 09:06:24 PM PDT

As we looked toward the devastation of New Orleans, from the first moment, amid great pain, there were those of us who looked at the disaster as opening a (painful) opportunity. A chance to take a leadership position globally, to create something better out of the wreckage, to build Eco New Orleans: 'A Shining Example for the Whole World'.

The tragedy wrought by Katrina provides a chance ... New Orleans can be remade into "a shining example for the whole world." Needed is a new city paradigm. Call it Eco New Orleans, a place attuned to ... "meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs."

With this discussion, posted 6 September 2005, Meteor Blades put into cogent thought and organization something that many were thinking.

Well, perhaps Brad Pitt read MB or perhaps he arrived at it independently or ... In any event, Pitt has the soap box and the resources to help make a reality of something that the current occupant of the Oval Office has shown little interest or concern in effecting.

Why Do Those People Live There?....

Tue Oct 23, 2007 at 08:56:38 AM PDT

Aren't they aware of the danger all around them? What were they thinking, building there? Didn't they even see this coming? Those people need to move--they shouldn't rebuild where they are. And we taxpayers shouldn't subsidize them if they build there. The same thing will certainly happen again and we'll be footing the bill. That land should be bulldozed and revert to its natural state.

Yes, the people of Malibu and other Southern California places that have been on fire lately are stupid for building their homes there. And those people shouldn't be sitting around whining and expecting hand-outs.

Are Brangelina Kossacks?

Mon Aug 06, 2007 at 07:37:00 AM PDT

If they're not, they serve as proof that dynamics we see at play here extend beyond cyberspace.

It appears the world's sexiest couple got into a fight that we have seen replicated thousands of times right here at the Great Orange Satan.

The details below the fold.

Madonna and Brangelina and Exotic Pets

Bob Herbert nails it again regarding New Orleans

Wed Jan 17, 2007 at 08:21:57 AM PDT

Original at Booman Tribune.

There's been some hullabaloo since yesterday in HuffPo that Brangelina is coming to live in the French Quarter while Brad is making a film.  Of course, they're also coming at a good time, before Mardi Gras season begins.

And the kiddies will be going to private preschools, not any preschool connected with that torn-up system barely making a blip.

And who can forget their humanitarian efforts? "Angelina has asked for places she can do charity work," says the source, who adds that Jolie had inquired about a school for disadvantaged youth. And construction is set to start this month on the 20 environment-friendly homes Pitt, 43, jointly commissioned with Global Green USA.

Yeah.

In contrast, I've missed Bob Herbert's columns in the New York Times about Katrina, but this new one came via Portside, published yesterday:

Ruminations... & a Rant

I'm in with the in crowd --
and I know what the in crowd knows

Dressing fine, making time
We breeze up and down the street,
We get respect from the people we meet
They make way day or night...

I know, I've been out of the loop for so fucking long, this is probably OLD news to you all, but I just ran across it on YouTube...

... and the gob of self-pity I've been carrying around for what seems like weeks got yanked out of me like a cute, freshly washed little black puppy from a bin full of mud-soaked little grey ones...

Brangelina won't marry until I can!

Fri Sep 08, 2006 at 04:26:39 PM PDT

I'm don't usually follow the Hollywood gossip sheets, but I was very happy to stumble acrosss the news that Brad Pitt has declared that he and Angelina won't get married until gay marriage is legal in the United States.

In an interview in the October issue of Esquire, Pitt responded to a question about rumours of impending marriage to Angelina Jolie by saying "Angie and I will consider tying the knot when everyone else in the country who wants to be married is legally able."
